Because occasionally there must be more than Work, no matter how much you love it, I spent the past 48 hours doing absolutely nothing business-related (okay, there was some post-dinner discussion Saturday night that veered on writerly, but we were drinking a 1997 Barolo so I don't think it should count). There was relaxation, and eating, and shopping, and shopping-enablement, and I am now so off schedule I may just have to die.

But I shall die slightly mellowed out. ;-) At least until I start reading the news again (ETA: oh well, that didn't last long).

And my new life-quote comes from David Steinberg, on the secret of having a successful, multi-faceted career: "I just kept working, and I never looked too far forward or too far back."

Thankfully phone and laptop update automatically. But it's always somewhat distressing to realize that the hour you thought you had to get somewhere? Gone.

George Clooney, like Richard Gere, did not move me at all in his younger days, but he has grown beautifully into his face and his character (villa in Tuscany! Socially responsible!) Why isn't he having children?

Why isn't he having children?

I suspect, beyond the "he doesn't want competition" cracks often made about his own childish behavior, his social responsibility extends to not wanting any obligating relationship that can't be ended amicably (i.e. between consenting adults), or requires a commitment he can't keep.

While I admire and applaud that (would that more people were that self-aware), it does seem that he should stop and think about the long-term good of the human race.... *wry g*

I think he'd make great kids...and probably be a great father, if he decided to do the job properly. But, as you say -- he has a life he enjoys, and kids are hard. Even wanted kids.

at this point, I'm not even asking him to make the kids (as it were), just to contribute to the genetic trail mix. Even if we have to wait a generation or two to add them in, it can only help....

And yes, there are a number of females and other males I think this of, as well, but Clooney's the one I dispair of ever getting to it on his own.

He's a man who knows his effect on females (and apparently doesn't abuse that power, at least in public) so I suspect he would be bemused, amused and slightly embarrassed. But would hide the last.
