Jan. 22nd, 2007 12:52 amthe Harry Dresden drinking game
Take a sip/shot when:
1. flashback!
2. Bob apologizes, and somebody in the viewing room says "Bob wouldn't do that!" (and oh how I wish he was a proper skull but still, nice scenery there, yes'm)
3. Harry fondles his bracelet.
4....
anyone got any favorites?
(personally, I'm thinking it ain't anywhere near as bad as it might have been, and much better than some things Skiffy has done. So the jury is out. And I actually liked Murphy - she looks wrong but she walks right. Alas, as I do not have the skiffy channel, I am dependent on the strangeness of kinders....)

Date: 2007-01-22 06:08 am (UTC)However, they understand that the most important thing about a Harry Dresden story is that Harry gets beat up a lot, so you can drink every time someone inflicts pain on him. That'll get you right plastered....

Date: 2007-01-22 07:09 am (UTC)And I agree: not as bad as it might have been and, you know, if you don't know the books, not bad at all, although a friend of mine who isn't familiar with the series said the following:
It was pretty much the same basic canvas as "Supernatural" (guy's mother is killed by something supernatural, he grows up wanting to hunt and kill the things that do that), but without the cool rock music.
I don't agree, myself, but I may be more forgiving.

Date: 2007-01-22 01:38 pm (UTC)plot hole you could drive a truck through (insert international sign for "plot hole you could drive a truck through" here), finish your drink and pour another.

Date: 2007-01-22 06:05 pm (UTC)I have mixed feelings about the series, but I'll stick with it. My only truly non-pedantic sticking point is Bob. They changed Bob! And I'm not just talking about him taking human form instead of possessing Mister, his whole personality seems different. But aside from that, I was mostly pleased. Blackthorne is awesome as Harry -- at least to me!

Date: 2007-01-23 02:41 pm (UTC)Yeah, I was annoyed about that too. Fine, the skull thing may not have worked in terms of character interaction on the screen, but what's with the wussing out and apologizing thing? That's just...wrong! Especially right off the bat, and for such a small amount of torture....

Date: 2007-01-23 12:27 pm (UTC)So far, I'm thinking of it as a sort of alternate Harry Dresden. Not quite the same, but not bad. In bookworld, Harry drives the Blue Beetle. In TV land, he drives a Jeep. Comparisons will be interesting artistically if nothing else. And I don't mind looking at Paul Blackthorne.
I'll probably end up with a preference, but as long as things don't go the way of Enemy Mine, I'll be all right. (Standards, much?)

Date: 2007-01-23 02:37 pm (UTC)The Beetle might have been a challenge for the actor, in terms of folding himself into it (and not getting bruised/battered...).
