My index finger nail just tore off, halfway down the bed. No blood, but much ow. Welcome to Monday.

-----------------
I love Anthony Bourdain. I do't think I'd like him all that much (he'd probably try to get me to eat a whole cobra, or something) but I do love him.

"Meals make the society, hold the fabric together in lots of ways that were charming and interesting and intoxicating to me. The perfect meal, or the best meals, occur in a context that frequently has very little to do with the food itself."

I'm sort of bummed I won't be around for the season premier of No Reservations on New Year's Day. I may have to eat something really exotic and cringe-worthy to make up for it.

Am thinking about this because I spent a lot of yesterday cooking. Made my first chicken stew, which came out quite tasty, if not quite stew-perfect. Boomer made his best Pitiful Starving Me effort to get the bones, but no go. Also made cinnamon-chocolate cookies, which I'm told need more chocolate, and a batch of raisin scones. Am contemplating my collection of truffle recipes, which will probably please those coming for Channukah dinner.

See, for me, when the book needs a break, I get the urge to cook. And once I cook, I must then clean. By the time I'm through with all the steps, I'm usually ready to go back to the book.

*frowns at book* *frowns at recipes*

*frowns at calandar with Important Dates marked on it, and goes back to book*

I am charmed by the notion of a colander with important dates enscribed on it, and as well by the notion of a calendar with holes in it, for draining off the unimportant stuff.

Did you see when he was on Top Chef? He was hilarious -- I just wish he'd been on during a better week.

Heh. I liked that one, though I prefer A Cook's Tour.

i was sitting on a bench, and i reached back for my wallet, this snagging my nail on the wood. There was a moment of immense pain, but I didnt think anything of it at first, but then it began to throb. On closer inspection a splinter had gone completly under my nail, and lodged itself down the full length of my nail. I had to cut away at the nail, and cut into the nailbed with a razor blade to finally get it out. I wasnt about to go to the ER for something like that, but I didnt want to leave it in to get infected. Lets just say there WAS lots of blood, and lots of pain. Your nails can be so sensitive sometimes, and since they reside at your fingertips, unfortunaly sometimes they are exposed to stuff like that. But what can you do?
