lagilman: coffee or die (brain. hurts.)

Saturday started out badly, due to a combination of exhaustion, headache, nerves and stupidity on the part of several players. By the end of the day I had been soothed by a lovely dinner with [livejournal.com profile] arcaedia, a few thousand words written on the current project, and snuggles with the felines, who don't like it when momma's upset.

Sunday started better, with more work accomplished, this time on the copyedit for BURNING BRIDGES, and a fan letter from a friend who had just finished reading STAYING DEAD. Then down into Manhattan to hang with the folks, prior to Monday's Gig (about which more later). We walked over to Central Park, hit a crafts baazar, bought holiday cards, and sat around watching the Giants game. More work on the copyedit, and some year-end rejiggering of the financials (wheee), then salmon and sweet potato for dinner, and The Librarian2.

Ah, The Librarian. How lovely to see him again. Although the second movie, inevitably, lacks some of the delightful sense of discovery of the first one, it was still... well, let's face it, it was good clean squeeeing smart and smartly-done fannish fun. But not enough Bob.

Yes, every bit was lifted from another source. Your point? All chocolate mousse recipes have the same ingredients, more or less, too...

And I've hooked my folks on it -- "Well, there's Jane Curtin. And Bob Newhart. And Olympia Dukakis.. hey, that was MY spot on the sofa!" Ten minutes in, they were sitting on front of the tv, enthralled, and my dad was gving Flynn advice ("You don't want to go in there..."). I think I know what I'm getting them for Chanukkah....

Oh, and watching movies in High Def? Totally kicks.

Monday morning I rolled out of bed at the ungodly hour of early, and jostled wth the wage slaves on the subway on my way down to the West Village and the Little Red School House, where -- wearing my YA author hat -- I had been nvited to speak during their annual book fair. At 9am. Oy.

I was nervous as hell -- fourth graders? Tough damn audience! -- but we all seemed to click, and the kids not only enjoyed the reading (4th graders do NOT pretend interest just to be polite, bless them) and asked some really great questions. Afterward the parent-guide who had been assigned to me informed me that I had totally rocked the house, keeping even the known attention-impaired kids focused for a full 45 minutes. She said something about my being "honest" and "funny" and "not stuffy."

Imagine that. *grin* Yay me. :-)

Afterward, did the last bits of work on the copyedit while treating myself to the annual gingerbread latte at Starbucks (and eavesdropping on a conversation between two lawyers discussing cases involving cops -- v. interestng stuff), before lunch with Madame Editrx. I handed over the copyedit, got chocolate (the two were not related but should have been), looked at covers for various folk, includng some non-Lunas (Mindy, Maria, etc), and then off to fooooood and discussion of things current (pun intended), pending, and future.

A few Necessary Errands, and then home, home, home. For about ten minutes, before I was off again to Monday Night Happy Hour, mainly to drop off my offering for the Toys for Tots drive. I'd missed the last few HHs due to travel and illness, so it was nice to get to see folk again, at least for a little while. But the felines were waiting back home, and not even $5 mojitos can compete with that.

Beside, I feel this intense urge to fall over.

I'm kinda bummed that I missed The Librarian, but not too bummed, since I saw Casino Royale instead. I figure it'll be released on DVD soon enough, and then I can rent it and watch without commercials.

Wow, just looking in on your site, sounds like a great life and certainly different from mine. Got up at 6, dropped my bare feet onto the freezing wood floor, then drank coffee in bed until 6:30 while watching Imus in the Morning. Got myself dressed to dash outside in zero degree weather to start my van which was covered with a foot of snow. The windshield washer was out of the stuff which melts the ice, so the glass didn't clear off enough to see through until almost 7. Drove on an icy road to the office, squinting through the small square of defrosted windshield, stayed there until 7, then drove to Safeway and bought a roasted chicken, some bananas and a jar of chunky blue cheese dressing. The snow on the roof of my cabin had fallen on the deck during the day while the sun was out, then it froze solid, so I climbed up over a mountain of snow to get inside. The TV on when I left in the morning, but now the screen was black with no picture at all, and I have no idea what is wrong. Worse of all, the only video in my cabin was some Austin Powers thing, which I refuse to watch; so gross. Fed my Yorkie Mr. Moki, fed the two cats, Miss Rosie who is a white cat with one blue and one gold eye, and Mr. Buddy, my seventeen year old Himalayan, then pulled up my ONNALEE manuscript and edited for about two hours. Since the TV is kaput, I bounced around on the internet, putting my name in just for fun, and found your site. Same last name, just different games. All in all, it was a pretty good day, so hello from one Gilman to another.
