progress...progresses
Feb. 16th, 2004 05:40 pmAnd lo, the doorbell rang, and USPS delivered the author's pass for Staying Dead. Or, as Harlequin apparenetly calls, then, "author alteration pages." They do things quite differently than any other publisher I've worked for/with. This is going to be... interesting.
And that's without taking into account my longstanding hatred of reading proofs. I should not be allowed anywhere near my "it's finished you can't revise it any more" work until at least a month after publication. And maybe not even then. Because it sucks and I'm embarassed to have my name attached to it.
*sigh* But I shall muddle through. And will be making frequent calls for reassurance from people who've read the damn thing so they can say "shut up, Gilman, it does not suck, we wouldn't have let you send the thing in if it sucked." And words of that nature. I won't believe them, but it will soothe me long enough to get the job done.
What I really hate about this stage, though, is that it's keeping me from book 2. Which of course this time I will make perfect before it leaves my desk. Really. I'll love it, and all will be wonderful and kissy birds and frollicking fawns and string quartets...
and okay, maybe not. And I think I just made myself violently ill. Need to go purge the whole Disney visual, if you'll excuse me...

Sympathies. But whether it meets your exactly standards at this point or not, I can pretty much guarantee I'll like the book, a lot!
