weather or not there's whether
Aug. 1st, 2006 10:39 amWelcome to August.
It's hot.
The air feels like the inside of a pressure cooker, even at 7:30 this morning.
It's going to get hotter.
I think I'm handling this remarkably well, actually. I wake up, drink a bottle of water, take aspirin, turn the fans up to high, andgo back to bed go to work. I am not happy about any of this, but so far that unhappiness has not led to bloodshed, either mine or anyone who asks how I'm enjoying the weather.
If it doesn't break by Thursday, as predicted? All bets are off.
ETA: went outside to get lunch, and while it's bad, it's not quite 'orrible...yet. But this is in a neighborhood with relatively low-set buildings and mature shade trees. I feel utmost sympathy for those of you trapped in concrete cities...

Date: 2006-08-01 02:56 pm (UTC)For the liquid, nearly anything will do: squeeze the juice of 5 or 6 lemons & add water; liquify a pound of strawberries in the blender & add water; throw a bag of Trader Joe's frozen mango in the blender & add water; four peaches slightly past their prime in the blender & add water. Just: make the sugar sirop by adding the sugar to a cup of water in a saucepan, stir occasionally, bring to a boil. Let cool a little. Add to your other liquid. Freeze.

Date: 2006-08-01 03:43 pm (UTC)No blender needed for coffee granita, however: dissolve sugar in 4 cups of hot coffee, add two tablespoons kahlua/Tia Maria/other coffee-complementing booze. Put in a 9x13 pan. Put in freezer. Stir away from the edges periodically with a fork (the aim is to have it freeze grainy, not hard). Awaken happily the next day.
