premium pistachio ice cream.

I can only eat a small amount (pesky lactose intolerance, not to mention the calories) but oh. Yum. Happiness.

Vanilla for sundaes and root beer floats, strawberry if it's fresh-made, but pistachio.... yum. Did I say that already?

So if you could only have one flavor of ice cream for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Only one? Hmmmmmmmmm....
It's a tie I'd say between Presidents Gold Moose Tracks or Nestle's chocolate chip cookie dough.

*drools* *gains ten pounds just thinking about it*

Ben & Jerry's Coffee Heath Bar Crunch. Although their new Vermonty Python flavor is pretty much crack.

Tip Top Passionfruit dipped in chocolate. Of course that would mean I would need to move back to New Zealand, but heh, anything for your favorite ice cream, right?

The caramel ice cream at Otto http://www.ottopizzeria.com/

The lemon creme fraiche ice cream at Ciao Bella

The lemon verbene ice cream at Casa Bini in Paris

OK, so I chose more than one. Each of these approaches the erotic in intensity. But if it really really had to be one, it would be the first one.

I've recently come to appreciate pistachio more. My mom loved it as a kid. Or butter pecan, or chocolate almond. I used to like coffee ice cream; I'm sort of worried to find out now, since I've become so used to drinking coffee without sugar that I've spit it out if it was sweetened. A good dark chocolate ice cream is hard to beat. And Ben & Jerry's Black and Tan, chocolate and stout ice creams swirled, is great. So basically the nutty things, or bitter-things-made-creamy. Once in a while, I get the urge for something lighter, like peach, but not too often.

But the number one, not replaceable by another flavor or food, life would be poorer without it? Ginger gelato.

Coffee. Odd, since I don't drink the stuff. But there you go ...

I tried pistachio in Salzburg and it didn't like me, not at all.

The cinnamon glacè served by the old guy with his own cart at the Boulevard St. Michel entrance to the Luxembourg gardens, in Paris.

Thou shalt have no other cinnamon ice cream before me. Although I must say, the cardamom ice cream we get locally is on the glhglhglhglh side of yum.

Any premium version of mint chip, since it's close to the only ice cream I eat anyway.

My favorite is mocha chip. But my mother seems to be thriving on the lactose free vanilla Scoopfuls... [She and my brother are lactose intolerant. My father and I aren't.]

Breyer's real vanilla (with the bean specks in it). Goes with any kind of topping. Tops any kind of cake. Makes fabulous shakes. More than enough combinations for a lifetime.

I would go with a really good Vanilla. Anything else is gilding the lilly.

Totally hijacking your comment thread, but...
I wanted to give you a pointer to this walk-in meercat exhibit (http://www.webcomicsnation.com/shaenongarrity/narbonic/series.php?view=archive&chapter=10260). The photo's about half-way down the page.

Oh, and for long-term all-purpose bliss, Oreo Cookie Crunch. Good in sundaes, good on its own, good as a side...

Best on its own, B&J Oatmeal Cookie Chunk. Mmmmm....

Best dairy-free ice cream substitute that I can actually eat, Chocolate Fudge Rice Dream. Virtually indistinguishable from medium-quality ice cream.

I have recently gotten totally addicted to carmel fudge. Vanilla ice cream, swirled with carmel with chunks of fudge. I think it is the perfect ice cream, because carmel and fudge are made to go together, add ice cream and it becomes perfect.

While I love all sorts of ice creams, gelatte, sorbets, etc, after much consideration I have to say that Friendly's Hunka Chunka PB Fudge is just divinity in sundae form.

Many years ago, I would have said Ben and Jerry's Coffee Coffee, Buzz Buzz Buzz.

I'd probably have to go with vanilla, 'cause it's easiest to cheat and add other stuff to ... ;)

BTW, you know the actual ice cream part of pistachio is usually melon flavor, right? :)
