Another two hour volleyball practice. I'm having to train myself out of all the old, sloppy "casual game" rules (or lack thereof), which is difficult, but there was significant progress made, to the point of being high-fived several times. I'm still not the player you'd call first for your team (or second, or third) but I won't get slapped by the rulebook, either. Often, anyway. I hope.

Part of the problem is that all the athletics I was involved in while growing up (riding, archery, fencing) called for a very distinct sort of body movement. Volleyball is asking for something completely different, and my muscle memory doesn't like that. But once it figures out 'oh, like this!' it seems to adapt well enough. My set-ups are pretty good, as are my serves. I still need to practice my returns. A lot.

Also? Is very difficult to pivot on sand.

Unfortunately, I'll be away when we play our first actual game, so the trial-by-fire will be delayed.

Now, if you'll excuse me, a couple of aspirin and a comfy sofa are calling my name...

Morning Update: Also, ow. But in a 'yay me' sort of way. Not bad for a lazy writer-type, huh? (the team seems to run from college students to... well, I may be one of the oldest members, depressing though that is to think about...)

Duude. I am SO going to be on your team for the July 1st game. (You ARE going, right?) I don't want to play against someone who's been training for this! :-)
