The news today says...maybe.

Specifically, a vaccine for cervical cancer, the first ever specifically designed to prevent cancer*.

I'm...cautious, because hopes have been dashed before. But it's a hell of a forward leap. And since I'm in the high-risk category for cervical cancer, I'm feeling it doubly so.

If you donated to the Revlon Run/Walk? Feel good. You helped get us here.

*and, of course, there are *expletives deleted* who want to deny the vaccine, because they claim it will 'encourage promiscuity." If someone says that near you? Hit them. Hard. I'll be your alibi.

Yeah, this has been flying under the radar for a few months, and those cooks are driving me up the wall. Yes, it might encourage women to have active, healthy sex lives, which we know is wrong and sinful. Women don't actually have libidos; they just lie back and think of England.

The vaccine was announced a while ago, and the Malevolent Moralists have been badmouthing it for just as long. They deserve to have tanks of liquid nitrogen with long tubes and frozen up probe tip shoved up into their internal anatomy and applied, and see if that changes their opinions are of cervical cancer vaccines... (or have surgery involving surgical instruments for carving out tissue instead of cryosurgery... for that matter, there's the biopsy that does involved a piece of tissue being cut out of one's innnards first before the cryo or conoscopy).

Hopes are high, it did amazing in studies. Assuming the books weren't cooked, of course. My exam yesterday asked us what the only cancer now preventable by vaccine was, and cervical cancer was the answer. Professors are even guestimating as to where in the under age 5 vaccine line-up it'll be put! So hope is very, very high. :-)

Personally I don't need cancer to enjoy lying back and thinking of england, but I guess some people will not enjoy sex untill that whole cancer angle comes about...
