This is how it works: Comment on this entry and get a letter, if you want a letter. Write ten words beginning with that letter, including an explanation of what the word means to you and why.

[livejournal.com profile] scarlettina slapped me with an "S"

1. Snark: the fine art of being bitchy and witty at the same time. Harder than it sounds, and, like punning, not for the well-mannered or delicate.

2. Snapple: Diet lemon snapple, the fluid my body runs on in the summer.

3. Sex: So long as everyone's consenting and of legal age, and the goat's gotten a clean bill of health, it's a beautiful thing.

4. Sunshine: I hate it, and yet I crave it. My mood is absolutely solar-powered, I am much happier for indirect sunlight and the upswing it brings.

5. Sue: My middle sister, Suzanne Beth. All the Gilman girls have three syllables to their name: my mom's way of ensuring a cool-down period while she bellowed for us after we did something Bad...

6. Silk: There is absolutely nothing like a length of quality silk; not in the way it feels, the way it moves, the way it takes and reflects colors. Just lovely.

7. Sunrise: the experience of being awake at sunrise, especially near a body of water, is one that's close to religious for me. Or maybe that's just the sleep-deprivation. Whatever, it's a sense of majesty and glory coming to the day, and makes memories I cherish.

8. Sunset: Again, especially over water. Less religious and more sensual, maybe because there's usually food and drink involved. Sundowning (the fine art of doing nothing but sipping a drink and watching the sun go down) is an old Gilman Family Tradition while on vacation.

9. Sensual: Sensual is a different beast from sexual -- it's about the appreciation of the physical world, using all of your senses to soak in a moment and indulge in it. I am, absolutely, a sensualist, and unapologetic about it.

10. Smile: I smile a lot. I like to smile. And no, it's not always just to bare my teeth at someone. If you smile at someone, especially a little kid, they will smile back. Sometimes they'll even giggle. Smiles are scientifically proven to make both the recipient and the sender feel better, and it doesn't cost you a thing except a few muscle movements, and eventual laugh-lines. What, in this world, can be a better thing to do?

And now, off to The City -- going to play some poker, then see the Darwin exhibit at the Museum of Natural History. Is it research? Everything's research, children. Play nice while I'm gone!

I thought the Darwin show was brilliant: greatly enjoyable, a genuine teaching tool, and full of cool stuff.

All about the sex and the clean bill of health.

Tag me. Not R or D, though; I've done them both.

Not picky - just, why do the same ones twice? And I've since done A, L, R, D, U and, finally, N.

Beatiful entry!

Okay, I commented: can I get a letter?? :: reaches out with grabby hands :: letter letter letter!

:-D

Hope you enjoy the Darwin exhibit - I've heard a lot about it, but that's because someone who comes to the house for lunch is a creationist, and there were a few .. discussions .. (not arguments - no never!) at the table during the time it was heavy in the paper.

Have fun!

I love letters!

Also, who in the world needs to be apologetic about being a sensualist... someone who doesn't appreciate the physical world might as well be dead. Poor dears.

I'm assuming she means a home game of some flavor. Me, I keep looking for a home game in which to play. I haven't played live poker in I don't remember how long.

Of course, the Darwin exhibit sounds cool, too.
