Oh, the joys of writing the second book in a series. I've never done this before -- everything up until now has been a one-off (well, that's not strictly speaking true -- "In the Night" was a follow-up to "His Essential Nature" which was a follow-up to "Exposure." But they all stood completely alone).

But now I'm writing a direct follow-up, and worse yet things that were in motion to change at the end of book one have changed before the opening of book two, so there's not only the need to introduce new readers to what went on before but also I have to catch returning readers up to what's been going on while they were away...

I can do it. I know I can do it. I even know how I can do it. It's just that the doing of it is making me a little squirrelly.

Okay, a little more squirrelly than usual, okay?

Looking to close in on 500 words tonight, and then the first two chapters (first rough draft) go off to CGAG for evisceration on Wednesday...

It's good to be back in the saddle. Even if the horse isn't quite sure of the bit and bridle yet. (and that reference was so totally for [livejournal.com profile] badgermirlacca...

LOL! It's not the bit and bridle you need, it's SPURS!

Like the new icon?

Evisceration? Pish. Tosh. Etc.

I suspect I'M the one who's gonna get eviscerated Wednesday. Not YOU.

But try to do it nicely. I have an interview Thursday at The College Board, and I don't want to trail guts through their lobby...(grin)

I'm working on the sequel to URBAN SHAMAN, myself, and while it's not a direct sequel the way yours is, it makes me squirrelly, too. I've never written a sequel before, either. *laugh* I've got it well in hand now, I think (knock on wood), but it's pretty strange and interesting to come back to characters and find out what they've been up to in the interim.

A challenge, but you can do it.
