Oh, Canada...

*heavy sigh, shaking head sadly*

Have you not been paying attention? Did we suffer all these years for nothing?

Okay, let's try this with me logged in this time.

Given that their (Canadian) conservatives are not like our (American) conservatives, I'm not feeling too horrible about this one, honestly.

My husband (Canadian) says that even the most right-wing politician in Canada (on the national level, at least; who knows what goes on in some backwoods ridings) is too left-wing to get elected in the U.S.. Still, much of what I've heard about Harper doesn't please me.

I keep telling myself "at least it's a minority government".

Believe me, it's no less pleasant for those of us who live here.

Fortunately, the Baby Republicans have no allies to make coalition with, so under our government system, the first time they lose a vote, they'll be back at the polls--probably in a year or two.

Some of us knew. Some of us cried. Some of us wailed.

Some of us got martinis to hold on to while we see where this goes.

At LEAST everyone seems to be pointing out its a minority gov't and that while everyone made it clear the Liberals are out... it wasn't so much the Conservatives are IN. Caution all around.

I think it came from the feeling that the NPD-middle-of-the-road is nice, but not strong enough or mature enough to run a country. So give em a little more of the pie, ween them onto responsibility, take the Libs out and cautiously slide more to the Cons. Balancing act really. But no CLEAR directive to run ourselves into the ground.

Of course W and I both want to start an online journal of "And today I lost the right to vote..."
