Lestat: The Musical

(I'd heard about this a while back, but never actually believe any B'way buzz until the show opens...and sometimes not even then.)

Oh, I saw the commercial for this the other day. All of my "Oh, this is so wrong!" alarms went off. Not even I will shell out money for that.

Elton John. Bernie Taupin. Ann Rice. Schlock and awe.

[livejournal.com profile] jonquil had mentioned this one awhile back. They actually test-ran the sucker here in San Francisco.

The horror! THE HORROR!

You know what I'm scared of? The possibility that truly, geniuinely strikes horror into my heart and makes me think the End Times are indeed, here?

Four words:

"Tom Cruise's Broadway debut..."

AIIIIIEEEEEE!!!!!! *hides under bed, twitching*

Strangely enough, that was almost the exact same reaction that the SF Chronicle reviewer had to the play when it opened here... although he was more interested in staking the play.

His review titled "Put a stake in it" is here, if you're curious: http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2006/01/10/DDGCQGKMFA1.DTL&type=performance

Could it be any worse than Queen of the Damned?

Thought you might be interested in this fairly balanced review of the show from the Talkin' Broadway web site. Makes the show sound like what I expect it to be in a pre-Broadway run: still feeling more like a workshop piece than finished work. Based on the reviews, I wonder if we'll see reworking before it comes to New York.

Yuck! (And you're reading someone who is actually getting tickets to Lord of the Rings: The Musical (mainly because a friend is playing Aragorn).

And what's even worse? Usually a high-profile project like this has at least *one* name Broadway actor. I haven't heard of a single on of those people.

I shudder at the thought of this.
