Actor and comedian, dead at age 80. I knew him mainly as the Tn Man in The Wiz, but was blown away by what he did with that role. According to news reports, he never married and leaves behind no known family. So light a candle for him, to speed him on his way and remember him to the world.


Apropos of current days, one of his better known quips:

"The opposite of pro is con/ That fact is clearly seen/ If progress means move forward/ Then what does Congress mean?"

I remember him well, not only from his Wiz and stand-up days, but from when he was the most popular carhop at an Atlanta drive-in called the Varsity. Godspeed, indeed.

And what was that line from 1776? "One useless man is a disgrace, two is a law firm, and three must be a Congress". I'm starting to agree with John Adams, as obnoxious and disliked as he might have been.
