Because the alternative is to post an all caps GET OUT OF RITA'S WAY! warning, and worrying like deja vu all over again. Can we send lovely Rita on a hop skip and jump over the coastline and directly to a specific ranch in Texas? "This time we'll be ready." Bastard.

Anyway. *calming breath* Meme.

Interestingly, exactly the same color I got last time this meme went around. I guess it's consistent, then...

you are darkslategray
#2F4F4F

Your dominant hues are green and blue. You're smart and you know it, and want to use your power to help people and relate to others. Even though you tend to battle with yourself, you solve other people's conflicts well.

Your saturation level is lower than average - You don't stress out over things and don't understand people who do. Finishing projects may sometimes be a challenge, but you schedule time as you see fit and the important things all happen in the end, even if not everyone sees your grand master plan.

Your outlook on life is dark. You're generally a pessimist and everyone knows it; you're the one they come to when they don't want the sunshine blown around, they just want the straight truth. You can miss good things in life if you make up your mind too early, though.

The problem is that when 1.3 million people simultaneously decide that yeah, just maybe, "getting the hell out of the way" is a good idea -- but then they do it all at the same time -- it's more like "hurry up and wait for a chance to get a few inches out of the way."

A friend was going to stay in Houston (not sure about where to take her parents' elderly dog, or her kitten, if she evacuated), but I basically long-distance hammered she and her sister into packing up the parents' house (they're out of town), throwing family jewelry and photo albums into the car, and getting the hell out of dodge. Then again, I spent all day telling her to leave NOW, get out while the traffic wasn't too bad. Between X'ing my friend's apartment windows, packing, cat-wrangling, and then off to her parents' house to do essentially the same, they didn't leave until 9pm last night -- and then sat for 45 min at a gas station for their turn to fill up the tank, and then off on what is normally a three-hour drive, with expectations it might be five hours for traffic.

They got on the road at about 10pm last night; it's 10am and they're still a half-hour away.

Evacuation plans are great, but 1.3 million people on the highways is way more than the highways were meant to take, really -- especially all at the same time. Laws of physics, y'know...

I like that. An easy-going pessimist. "Oh look, it's raining hellfire. The world must be ending. I think I'll go to a movie."

yeah, I guess he actually can learn from experience -- or at least from public disdain at the rescue forces he diverted / impeded during Katrina...
