President Gore Does his nation proud...

Actually, I have no idea what kind of president he would have made. If nothing else, however, he IS the "more sensitive idiot" New Orleans asked for. Right now, that's the highest praise I can give.
As
koimistress says, for every government official (elected or appointed) who shamed us, there were private citizens -- from every point along the influence scale! -- who went above and beyond 'because it was the right thing, the decent thing to do.
Some might say that's how it should be -- that the government should not be responsible for 'this sort of thing.' Fine. Then let's rethink that entire "Homeland Security" charter, hall we? because it seems to think that this is exactly the sort of thing the government should be involved in...
Argh. Dandelions. Going to sit in a patch of them again.

Date: 2005-09-10 03:57 pm (UTC)I'm never going to be able to wrap my head around the kind of mind that can, in the same sentence, say "Government needs to be tiny and stay out of peoples' private lives! MAKE ME YOUR KING!"

Date: 2005-09-10 05:00 pm (UTC)And you just know these are the exact same people who insist this is a Christian nation based on Christian principles and the government should be enforcing Christian morals. But when it comes time for the people who represent and lead all of us to show some kind of Christian charity and compassion? F*** that, let the meek take care of themselves...

http://jewishworldreview.com/0905/jkelly090805.php3
interesting in its claim that federal response for Katrina is the "most monumental and successful in world history." And it was faster than the response for Andrew and Jeanne. Is it? I don't remember there being much of an uproar then.

I can't speak for Jeanne, but Andrew got an immediate reaction and response in terms of evacuating people, pets, and property. Plus a president who was on the scene as soon as it was humanly possible, alert and updated on conditions, and speaking to the media about what would be done, and how.
We certainly didn't have anyone in FEMA claiming they didn't know anything 'bout no refugees, days after the rest of the world knew, in detail, with glossy graphic photographs and a rising death toll up and down the coastline, not just in NOLA.
In other words, I highly doubt it could be considered 'successful' by any standard except a spindoctor's.
