from CNN.com:

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The House majority leader late Tuesday tried to deflect criticism of the federal response to Hurricane Katrina by saying "the emergency response system was set up to work from the bottom up," then announced a short time later that House hearings examining that response had been canceled.

Where does the buck stop, again? I seem to have misplaced it in the major clusterfuck Cover-My-Ass/Fuck-Yours shuffle going on among our alleged leaders...

Dear god, I hate these people.

If you rubbed them together like kindling, you couldn't spark an ethic, scruple or hint of humanism between them. They're liars, cheats, corporate whores. Like George W Bush, they're incapable of admitting a human fault, much less a mistake.

Come the midterms, I want to see if America's been watching and paying attention.

And BTW, for those people out there who say it can't be George's fault because he's a "good Christian man"? A clue: Jumping up and down screaming "JESUS! JESUS! JESUS!" does not make you a Christian.

No bottom to my loathing for these people. They're criminals on a global scale.

And if Ms. Landrieu wants to sock Bush? I've got her back.

They've been madly blaming the victims for two days now - and what makes me really sick is looking on another list of mine and seeing people whine "I had to drop the Katrina Response list I was on because people keep talking like it's Bush's fault."

Well, who cut the funding? Bush. Who hired incompetents to run FEMA? Bush. Who praised their incompetent handling as "good"? Bush. Who is setting the talking points that blame the victim? Bush.

3000 dead on 9/11
1800 and counting dead in Iraq
Untold thousands dead in the Gulf

We can't survive much more compassionate conservatism.

The new Repub talking point is to blame the local and state government to deflect blame from Bush. Unfortunately, they are not familiar with the function of the Department of Homeland Security as stated on its very own website:

"All PRESIDENTIALLY DECLARED DISASTERS AND EMERGENCIES UNDER THE STAFFORD ACT ARE CONSIDERED INCIDENTS OF NATIONAL SIGNIFICANCE." (NRP, 7)

"When an incident or potential incident is of such severity, magnitude, and/or complexity that it is considered an Incident of National Significance, the Secretary of Homeland Security initiates actions to prepare for, respond to, and recover from the incident." (NRP, 15)

"The President leads the Nation in responding efficiently and ensuring the necessary resources are applied quickly and effectively to all Incidents of National Significance. (NHP, 15)

"The Secretary of Defense authorizes Defense Support of Civil Authorities (DSCA) for domestic incidents as directed by the President or when consistent with military readiness operations and appropriate under the circumstances and the law.

"Imminently serious conditions resulting from any civil emergency may require immediate action to save lives, prevent human suffering, or to mitigate property damage.

"When such conditions exist and time does not permit approval from higher headquarters, local military commands and responsible officers from the DOD are authorized by DOD directive and pre-approved by the Secretary of Defense to take necessary action to response to the request of civil authorities." (NPR, 42)
