Wow. New people! Hello, nice new people!

*peers more closely* Mike? 'dat you?

I had been thinking about going to see "The Brothers Grimm" for a belated birthday present to myself. Yes/no from anyone who's seen it? Am rationing my spending money because there are Trips coming up soon, and every bit I don't spend is a tsochtke I can buy while traveling. Or, okay, food! while traveling, yeah. :-D But the previews for TBG looked so pretty I may have to go anyway. Or maybe it's so bad it will end up in the $2 theater soon?

Wine of the week: Domaine de Gournier Merlot 2003. Smooth, jammy, but not heavy. A little bit tart on the finish, which was a nice surprise. For $8.99 I'd rec it to anyone who wants an uncomplicated but interesting red wine to drink with dinner. Sort of of like the blind date who, while not a romantic probability may end up being someone you enjoy hanging with.

In other news, am back to writing again. All it took was turning off the news. Flaming spiders! Foot-long newts! Snarky wizards and long-suffering teenagers! Yep, Grail Quest rides on...

Question, ma'am: I got an email invite/solicitation to join an MSN newsgroup called Books to Film. It had an email address listed in the "To:" section that referenced Wren and Sergei. Did you get this? Does it seem legit? I haven't answered it yet.

Deb, let me know what you find out about this-- my friend Alesia Holliday received the same invite and had no clue what it was about.

Thank you, muchly. I know Alesia was also very much with the wotthehell and because she's got a deadline in like, thirteen days, said, "I'll deal later."

If you mean this Mike, yep. It's meeee.

I eventually do follow you EVERYWHERE you know, sis. I've not been hitting the ngs recently. Dealing with my own issues, so spend what time I'm online here on livejournal.

Read a whack of your recent entries. Yikes. I'm a little at a loss for more than that right now... but are YOU doing ok?

Hey, I've already got one stalker, kid.

Well, yeah. But what are twin not-brothers for if not to patter around after you, basking in the glow of your achievement and stealing the spotlight where possible.

(ahem)

Or is that just my side of the family?

;)

And yeah : Hanging in there by my claws and teeth, as ever. Is what we do, no? is defintely what we do. ((hug)) Just too bad anyone's got to.

Don't bother seeing Brothers Grimm at full price. I agree with the $2 theater or wait until it's out on DVD suggestion. While there was some funny bits and interesting bits, heck there were even cool bits, the bits got lost in the chaos of Gilliam's vision. It's sad when the main actors have to compete with the scenery for screen time.

Haven't seen the film, but the trailer looked awfully CGI-heavy. I'm waiting for the DVD.

Brothers Grimm...hmmm just saw it today. I enjoyed the combination of Heath Ledger and Matt Damon, though not the right script for an intro movie on what could have been a blockbuster combination.
It waxxed a little campy at times and camera work was a little too jagged and quick in many places (usually a sign of budget cuts: quick pan to trick the audience's view of cheaply made props and sets). CGI heavy--yes.
I kept wondering while watching it, how it would have turned out with the original cast: Nicole Kidmann, Sir Anthony Hopkins, Robin Williams, Johnny Depp... I think the movie would have taken a little more mature and serious tone.
Worth waiting for. IMNSHO.
