Aug. 30th, 2005 02:09 pmIf you can spare even $5 -- http://www.redcross.org/donate/donate.html The Red Cross needs cash more than they need supplies right now, sounds like. If nothing else, they're going to need to buy lots and lots of vaccinations for the refugees in NOLA and all along the affected areas...
And, a spot of IMGDO --
Shoot the looters. Shoot them now. Okay, shoot them with tranq darts. But make sure it hurts. And when they wake up, have "Looter" tattooed on their forehead so everyone else can read it.
All right, I know there are people out there who are trying to get basic supplies. But there are reports of people carrying off sneakers, cash and electronics, for christ's sake. Dude, where are you going to plug it IN?
Bastards.

As far as shooting the looters goes...
Date: 2005-08-30 07:34 pm (UTC)It is worse than I thought. And I thought it was pretty bad!

It's worse. The Times-Picayune reported police and firefighters among the looters:
"As some police officers were carting off flat screen TVs, their co-workers stood by and watched the crowd plunder the store. Some fire department employees loaded a utility truck with fishing gear, and one harbor police officer pointed another toward the sporting goods department."
"The level of shamelessness and lawlessness was almost incomprehensible."
Don't shoot them. String them up and whip them. Publically. On a live TV broadcast. Then brand "looter" on thier foreheads, and make clear that no one will care what the vast majority of law-abiding citizens might choose to do with anyone they find with that brand.
"Human rights"? Sorry, but folks like that have voluntarily renounced the right to be considered human.
The Times-Picayune's plant is without power, so the presses are stopped, but they published a PDF edition, available here:
