Judge: Parents can't teach pagan beliefs
Father appeals order in divorce decree that prevents couple from exposing son to Wicca.

I can't even speak for the incoherent outraged spluttering. So go, read for yourself.

[livejournal.com profile] bonniebluebitch's commentary

the actual article

The United Blue States of Free America is starting to sound better and better. And this from me, who studied North American history and KNOWS seccesion is not a good fiscal, emotional, or practical idea.

Psst. You typed "bonnue" instead of "bonnie," so your links don't work.

Yes, indeed. I am awfully tired of so much of this country apparently living under its very own banner: The Holy EMpire of Dumbfuckistan.

Bleah.

That any judge would think that he has the right to dictate this is appalling, but at least it's likely to get overturned pretty quickly.

But still...

^ Unless the appeals judge is a Bush nominee, and orders the Wiccans burned...

I am embarrassed to say that's my hometown paper.

I wish, however, that I could say I was surprised to see this.

Welcome to why I ran like hell from there as soon as I could.

As observed in the two other journals on my friendslist where this popped up:

Getting the judge's order modified should solve the specific case, but based on the story as reported, the real question is what the Domestic Relations Counseling Bureau (whatever that is) thought it was doing in making its recommendation to the judge. Reform in the courts won't solve the underlying problem if the underlying problem is in the DRCB.

I kinda disagree there, Djonn. The DRCB's recommendation has no weight if the judge ignores it as he should. The idjit who wrote up the recommendation should get his or her ass fired, I grant you, but the real problem is that our law schools are not educating our judges about the Bill of Rights.

With you on the judge, who needs to be dope-smacked.

Not with you on this part:

The United Blue States of Free America is starting to sound better and better. And this from me, who studied North American history and KNOWS seccesion is not a good fiscal, emotional, or practical idea.

Wahhh! Noooo! I live in a red state! Don't leave me, blues!

*weeps*
*sings "Swing Low, Sweet Chariot"*

Judges are just FULL of fun today, aren't they. A Minnesota court used privacy encryption software being on someone's pc as proof of criminal intent. Because gods know, if you want privacy, you MUST be a criminal!

As you can see, moving to Austin, TX from Indiana actually did land me in a more liberal place than my home state....

I had many Catholic friends going to school with non-Catholics--the non-Catholics just were sent to study hall during the catechism classes.

This is why, alas, one must never out someone from the broom closet...you don't know the situation whre they live.
