If you're going to be posting something that takes up more than one screen of text, or is jpg-heavy? Cut-tags are not only a courtesy, they're a factor of LJ Darwinism. Because that's a good way to annoy me enough that not only will I not comment, I won't even read after a while. And after I fall out of the habit of reading, up comes the weeding of the f-list. And I doubt that I'm the only one.

This may bother you not at all. But if it does, please think before you let your extended post hang free in the breeze, as it were. I'm perfectly willing to click-and-read. But give my scroll key a rest!

Thank you.

not only will I not comment

No, comment! A lot of people don't realize that they're screwing up other people's pages and if you tell them that they are and tell them how to fix it they will and they'll usually never make the mistake again.

Most communities have a blurb about cut tags but people don't read the info. The best way to get people to learn is to tell them when they do it. Ignore them and the problem won't go away. Until you take them off your friendslist, of course.

I was going to say something about people responding like that and it being a good way of narrowing down the f-list. I've seen it happen elsewhere, but never to me. Or I'd probably create a filter for that person and start posting the most vile pictures the internet has to offer. Because that's how I'd do things.

Heh. I don't even know *how* to post jpegs, what with being a complete techno-weenie. Only long ones of mine, ever really, are song lyrics, and those rarely take up a screen.

The ones that drive me fruit are the people who post full link addresses and send my margins all skew-whop. I hate it. But honestly, I will very rarely look behind a cut tag, because I then have to go backward afterward, if I want to catch up with interrupted flist reading.

So I see a "read more" tag, I glance down the page and see I'm way behind, I think eh, I'll read later, and then I almost never do.

It's a shame, 'cos I like to read those posts. But yeah, they mess up my friends' page too. I'm surprised--that poster has used cut tags in the past, especially with pic-intensive posts.

I created a short sheet of the most useful codes--unfortunately, you can't post them for people easily. Sometimes I send folks to the link in the FAQ (the FAQ is a tad overwhelming, I admit).

I have one person I need to warn--she is a stream-of-conscious writer in a bad patch, and as you say, I'm down to skimming her stuff.

On a topic that's more fun, can you recommend a dry white wine under $10 I would not be ashamed to use in making a marinade for chicken?

I like chardonnay--I even have one in there, although it may not be good (it's a toasted head 2003). I like the drier ones, generally. I need to add in Vin O--I was thinking you'd joined a group somewhere, it didn't register that you'd set up a site for us! 8^)
