And lo, we did wake at Oh Gods Early and hie ourselves to the stores.
First to Treasure island, where I wanted to buy new cookie boxes, as I actually ran out this year (oh the shame!). But they were scarce on the ground, which annoys me. Did nab wrapping paper, some candles, and other various replacement things at half price, though, so it was a $20 well spent (that's right, $20 for four rolls [correction: five! Five rolls of wrapping paper!] of holiday paper, six sparkly gold candles, a set of three cookies boxes, and various tree trimmings.)
Then on to the Mall. *Cue ominious music* Which, at 8:30, actually wasn't too bad. Scored a lovely black scarf for me, Polo cords for Peter, two gifts for friends we'll see on New Year's Eve, etc etc. Also candles for the menorah for next year. And resisted a few objects that exemplified the dictum "want does not mean need." *sigh* Keep reminding myself that we're going to hit the outlets soon...
And now back home before noon, with the entire afternoon in which to nap. And clean. And nap some more before the first of the NYE houseguests arrives at Newark Airport this evening...

Date: 2003-12-26 01:18 pm (UTC)Sympathize on the want-not-need. Have realized that my entire house is choked with tchotckies (sp?) that I sorta wanted at the time, but now what good are they doing anyone? Remind yourself that you're not denying yourself a need/want now, you're saving yourself from looking at something later and going "you know, I'm not even going to be able to flog this on ebay and paid too much to just pitch it."
