While I've been working, we had a lot of new people pull up a chair.

Be welcome!

*waving madly*

I promise I'll be more entertaining once I put a few of these projects to bed. In the meantime, feel free to introduce yourselves!

Laurie, 2nd year law student in the Michigan area... found you through friendsfriends, as well as some interest-matching. Hope you don't mind the random friending!

I do a sort of improve-theatre (it's actually live-action RPG, if you're familiar) and I got the privilege of playing a thirteen year old spoiled brat who inherited everything -- and I mean EVERYTHING -- from a reclusive duchess.

And she wanted a pony. But many other things were going on, and none of the retainers were able to take care of her pony wanting needs.

Slowly, over the course of three to four hours, I built up to a full-fledged tempertantrum. By the end of it, I was litterally running to people who were doing things and insisting that by what they were doing, they ought to get me a pony...

... to the man going shopping... "Buy me a pony!!!!"
... to the man fixing a bookshelf (which I had destroyed in a fit of pique earlier) "BUILD ME A PONY!!!!"
... and finally, to my dear old housekeeper, who was trying to soothe her feet in front of the fire and happened to have her yarn and needles "KNIT ME A PONY!!" while jumping up and down.

I stopped the whole game dead, apparently, and made a few people break character. Total scenery chewing moment. And hence, the nickname was born. I registered the domain and the handle everywhere I could think of.

Oh, yeah, she's familiar with LARPing, if only by hearing me talk about it ad-freaking-nauseum when I had the spare time to goth myself up and attend Vampire games (or fae myself up and hit Changeling). :)

And, y'know, not necessarily just that. But I saw that you two had made acquaintance and had to comment.

Well in that case, hehe, it was a fae game, and I was playing a childling Unseelie Satyr!

Oops. I don't think I've introduced myself to you, but I think I've commented. Nothing like getting random strange comments from random strange people.

I'm Denise, 24, library clerk, fan of book & stories. And now I feel like I'm being creepy. You're one of two authors I friended after reading something instead of "knowing" the person and then reading their work.

At first I thought it was very weird to read about what authors I know of are doing, but now I really like it. I don't get anxious for a new release when I can see some of what's going on.

So, um, hi!

Heh, thanks. I think Batgirl is why I originally wanted to be a librarian. I may have been too young and stupid to realize that I wouldn't get the chance to wear a shiny purple costume and get it on with cute acrobatic boys.

I can't resist lines like that one. I'm friending you, if you don't mind.

Okay, I'm befriending you as well, I like the way you talk. ^_^

Tech writer/editor here, but the rest of the time I try to write stuff that couldn't be used as a cure for insomnia. (Hint: when editing your own work, and you find you can't stay awake past two paragraphs, you're probably a tech writer.)

I can't even recall now where I saw the link to one of your posts, but I added solely because I liked a lot of what you had to say. Always on the lookout for more to think about.. y'know, keeps me awake between editing chapters on "coding for error checking in development" and the question of "crap, how do I fill this plothole?" ;D

The fact that it's true makes me wonder whether it's funny or just kinda distressing, sometimes. Okay, and sometimes I like to imagine saying blithely to an agent, "ah, yes, you've probably read my work at some point, but blocked it out from the trauma. That new printer you got? Yeah, that manual was me. Great stuff, hunh?" ;D

Lurk? Me?? Never! Umm, I just couldn't think of anything clever to say lately.

Actually, were your ears burning yesterday? I had lunch with a former associate of yours and we said bad things about you for at least 20 minutes. ;^)

Lunch or drinks anytime...when are you next planning to come into town? Hmm, let me rephrase that: when would you most like to be lured into town for a meal, solid or liquid?

You know me as Alis, but I write as Kate Elliott. I've been floating at the fringes of lj, journal-less, for a while now, but for some unknown reason I finally jumped in with both feet. Everyone seems to agree that it's a fine way to procrastinate.

You wrote the Jaran novels! I love those! I read them when they first came out. I still have those! They got relegated to the "must save these books forever" section of my library.

I don't know if I count as new or not—I forget how long I've friended you. :)

My name's Andrew, I first ran "met" you in KRAD's SFF newsgroup and friended you when he ran here (though since I never said much, you probably don't remember me). I haven't actually read any of your work yet but I keep meaning to. *embarrassed grin*

Hello, you call me Kyle, or Eddie, or emp. I read a lot, but I've never read any of your works. I write short fiction and terrible poems in wire notebooks in ink. (I tend to edit myself a lot, and this way, I always have every version of a sentence, paragraph, or what-have-you in case I edit out something good and decide to add it back later.) Oh, and I suppose I'm going to start taking creative writing classes this fall.

I sat in on one of your panels at Boskone and found you to be interesting and your description of your new series to be fascinating as well, so I made a mental note to google you later. I did, found your sff.net site, browsed through the list of your works, and bookmarked for later reading.

Then, the other day, I was talking to my friend over IM and he was bragging about how he met Chuck Palahniuk (http://www.chuckpalahniuk.net/). I get annoyed by people who brag about stuff, so I mentioned that I had met one of the Buffy authors at the con he wouldn't come to me with. He asked which one, and I'm bad with remembering proper nouns, so I said Laura something and loaded up the site to check. That's when I saw the link to your lj and ta-da.

I only set up my lj a little over a month ago to use for posting early drafts for my friends to read and give me feedback on, but I can't seem to force myself to sit down and actually type out one of my stories. If I end up in Hell, I suppose they'll have me transcribing something while wearing an itchy sweater and listening to pop music.
