1. [livejournal.com profile] paleologa is right, I should have my own cooking show. Call it "Kitchen Improvisation," since I rarely know what I'm cooking until I'm halfway through. Tonight, chicken stir-fry with star anise and garlic. Veggies are softened but still have a crunch, and the flavor is tangy-sweet. I like. Could probably have used cashews or peanuts, but I didn't have either in the house.

2. The only excuse for swimming is to not drown. People who swim for exercise baffle me. Yes, I use a treadmill. But I can listen to music, or talk to someone, or watch television, or work through a story while I do it. Swimming is pretty much makin' like a shark, only without the fun chomping on unsuspecting swimmers part.

note: water volleyball is different. You don't have to swim, you just have to be in the water. Likewise snorkeling. If I could snorkel without swimming, I'd do it (I managed it once, thanks to a well-placed overhang of beach).

3. If I see/hear one more ad for Zales or Kay Jewelers, I will kill someone. Is it Tuesday yet?

oh, and 4. Technology is a beautiful thing. I highly approve.

A little something to give you a grin:

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=519&ncid=519&e=5&u=/ap/20050210/ap_on_re_us/low_riding_pants

And:

1) Improv cooking is the best, especially when done with friends. Not much for peanuts or cashews in my stir-fry, but if you want to talk mushrooms...

2) Swimming to just laze in the water and watch the sky slide by is a good thing. Drink and music should be enjoyed with this activity along with a warm oil massage afterwards (preferably done by someone who can make your toes curl and your eyes cross.)

3) I'm beginning to loathe the pajama.com (or whatever the url is) commercials and, even though I'm a huge teddy bear lover, the vermontbearcompany.com commercials. Speaking of commercials: what is up with that Gladys Knight playing rugby in an evening gown for a credit card company thang?

4) I concur - can you imagine living without a computer or the internet any more? :shudders at the thought:

People who swim for exercise baffle me.

Though I haven't done it in ages, I love swimming for exercise. The constant motion feels really good, and there's no banging up the knees.

If I see/hear one more ad for Zales or Kay Jewelers, I will kill someone.

Every kill begins with Kay.

If I see/hear one more ad for Zales or Kay Jewelers, I will kill someone.

And the really weird thing is, they've filmed the exact same commercial with the same people, etc.--even the same script--only different jewelry.

I want a silk commercial. Silk is for everyone!

The only excuse for swimming is to not drown. People who swim for exercise baffle me. Yes, I use a treadmill.

You probably do not realize this, but I have a congenital birth defect. My knee caps are split into two pieces and joined by cartlidge. Repetative motions, like walking and running, put stress on that cartlidge. Stress means pain and discomfort. Walking is bad, running is VERY bad. Swimming is good because it causes very little stress on the knees, no impact to be concerned with AND most of the actual swimming is performed by the arms and shoulders so the legs can remain relatively motion free. Anyone who kicks like a lunatic to swim, is doing it wrong. Besides, swimming burns more calories faster than any other sport. Sooo, for some of us, swimming is very good exercise that is healthy and smart. Treadmills for me is a quick way to land me in the emergency room and on crutches. No thanks, been there before. I love to swim, it just isn't convenient to do all the time. Oh, and stair climbers and stationary bikes have the same problems as a treadmill for me. In essence there is no non-swimming exercise program (other than weight lifting) that I can engage in. Even the sports I do practice (fencing and skiing) are done with the knowledge that a serious injury could cripple me for life. But sometimes it is more important to live a short life you enjoy then it is to live a long life in misery.
