I have been reminded that I am remiss in reposting this information...
April 2005: 'Cashing the Reality Check'
Examine what "having a writing career" really means, from first accepted submission to going full-time. Learn to read a P&L and royalty statement, navigate the politics of changing editors/publishers, and study actual career paths of five writers to define success. Taught by Laura Anne Gilman, former Executive Editor at NAL/Penguin US, current full-time writer and freelance editor.
What it is: A month-long, on-line lecture series, with homework assignments, sponsored by the Southern Tier chapter of the RWA but not limited to genre. I'll probably be posting on Sunday and Thursdays, but this is subject to change. Each lecture will probably take you about 5-10 minutes to read, and longer to think about. *grin*
There's also time built-in to discuss homework assignments on the 'off' days, both with me and with other students.
How it's done: The moderator of the chapter will sign every registered student up to a Yahoogroups list, which will be the main discussion vehicle.
How to sign up: send your registration and money (check made out to Southern Tier Authors of Romance or paypal to yeep at aol.com). The form is located at http://members.aol.com/starrwa/workshop.pdf -- if you're using Paypal, make sure that information is included in the Note section of the payment. Cost is $15 for RWA members, $20 for non-RWA members.
I look forward to 'seeing' some of you there!
