Pretty much sums it up. No idea what's really happening in Iraq, but hoping that the cautiously optimistic headlines (essentially: "fewer deaths, more votes than expected") are true.

If a reasonable democracy is to take root after so long, the results are less important than the action. Even if the end result isn't a 'friendly' government.

We'll see.

Edited to add: And the polls have closed, although overseas voting continues. I hope they have better luck counting those than we did.

Giving the world the finger!

As a change of pace, in between news updates, I'm watching Robin Williams: Live at the Met. Because the world needs to laugh at itself more.

A good dose of Robin helps a lot. ;)

If you haven't found him yet, I also hihgly reccomend Eddie Izzard, a British Transvestite comedian that is just 'da bom'.

Yes, this is true...because he's just like an energizer bunny...he keeps going, and going, and doesn't let you pause for breath.

Have you seen his 2002 performance in New York? It's been on DVD and HBO...

We stole countries! That's how you build an empire. We stole countries with the cunning use of flags! Just sail halfway around the world, stick a flag in. "I claim India for Britain." And they're going, "You can't claim us. We live here! There's five hundred million of us." "Do you have a flag?" "We don't need a bloody flag, this is our country you bastard!" "No flag, no country! You can't have one. That's the rules... that... I've just made up! And I'm backing it up with this gun... that was lent from the National Rifle Association." -Eddie Izzard, A Dress to Kill
...haven't heard of 'em.
