ETA:

From [livejournal.com profile] jaylake's journal:

The president, as heard on NPR this morning:

"I don't think anybody anticipated the breaking of the levees, I don't think anybody anticipated such a severe storm."

(pause for everyone to look askance at the Moron on the Hill and say WTF?)

ETA furthermore -- question of the day: can we impeach the President for Terminal (for others) Stupidity? Can we? Huh?

Bad news, but not _all_ bad news )

New Orleans is (IS, damn it) a beautiful city, filled with culture and history and lovely, lovely structures. Great food. Wonderful people.

It's also The Big Easy. It's an unapologetic, un-PC harbor town that never let go of the past and still wasn't entire sure about this 'civilized behavior' thing. You didn't go to certain parts of town, period. You didn't assume the cops would give you a fair shakedown. You never, ever, ever acted as though you were in your own back yard (unless your back yard happened to be a gator-infested swamp).

Even in tragedy, New Orleans is a complicated place.

(I still say looters ought be bagged-and-ear-tagged. With neon tags reserved for law enforcement officers caught with their hands anywhere they shouldn't be. Bastids.)

I'm too angry. Too. fucking. angry.

Why are we not standing in front of the White House, demanding an accounting from the President who has shown us, by his apathy and ignorance and shameful lack of compassion, exactly what he thinks of his fellow citizens? Why are we not calling our President, demanding a reason for his abject, public stupidity and denial? Why are we not sending postcards, asking why the President strummed his guitar while his fellow citizens -- HIS FELLOW HUMANS --died?

Compassionate Conservative my ASS.

It's our responsibility to do more than merely bear witness.

Bring it, people. Don't just effing blog about it. BRING IT.
