I suppose it had to happen. He was just in the news last week, too, as it appears he contributed jokes to Letterman's monologue on occasion.

I saw that--he got a kick out of them using his jokes.

I remember working at staying up to watch him, when I was little. I don't know if kids try to watch Leno or Letterman, but I understood that everyone watched Carson, and it was the only way to know what was going on.

I don't think we will ever be so united again.
