A memorial to my dad, and all those I have lost, and a reminder that nothing that matters is ever truly lost.


Also, I am reasonably sure my tattoo artist never had a writer in his chair before, because he was bemused by my constant questions about the process. Hey, never know when it might be needed for a story, right? Waste no chance to learn something new….

I've got LJ for Little John on my arm at the same spot, but outside. As I told him just before he died, he would always be on my arm. Some days it's a hand lightly resting, others a shoulder I lean into.

It's beautiful. I totally understand.

So... awkward question from outsider so please yell if it's offensive. How does this jive with your personal religion?

Traditional (orthodox) Judaism basically says "don't alter the body, it doesn't belong to you, it's only on loan."

But since I'm already registered as an organ and marrow donor* (not to mention having pierced ears), and plan to be turned into tree-food when i die, I'm just going to have to trust Yahweh to be able to reconstruct me from the dust I went to, if there's need.

I did have some historical qualms about getting a tattoo on my arm, especially there, but I am also very much aware that this is also my mighty "fuck you" to the death camp tattoos.




*because to save a life is a greater mitzvah than to leave an untouched corpse

That's what I was curious about. I've known a few people who've had very very specific tattoos in that area for pretty much that same set of reasons. So I was curious. Just never quite sure how to broach that because a] it's none of my damned business and b] one should always be cautious about personal questions, really.

I'm giggling though because I also talked all the way through my tattoo, asking lots of questions. To the point that my friends who were getting theirs done at the same time nearly told me to shut up.
