We gave up five minutes into the pilot episode. Everything felt ham-handed and wrong.

Yeah, it took me about 5 minutes to think "ummmm" and ten minutes to realize I'd utterly blanked on anything happening on-screen, because I jut didn't care.

It also didn't help that Houdini's first line of dialogue is telling a female assistant she's incompetent but he'll keep her around because she's pretty. We're supposed to like him?

Honestly, I watch for the constable. The last issue we watched however (with the faith healer) was actually a little thought provoking, if also a bit ham handed.

Yeah, I'd heard about how wonderful it was and... it's not there. Especially as I know enough about the *actual* relationship between Houdini and Doyle to be annoyed by the "we wanna do a Victorian Supernatural!" RPF.
