There's news today too that TransCanada has decided not to go forward. I guess the costs don't justify it now that the oil/gas industry in Canada has been suffering. So it looks like it's totally off the table, at least until they want to propose it again.

Part of the battle plan, as I understood it, was not so much to "win" (because even the most optimistic of us knew that was a longshot) but to drag the battle out long enough that the pipeline was no longer a cost-effective option.

Winning on two fronts is a win indeed.

(but, as I said, it's not the war-won. Yet.)

They need to inform the Canadian people that they (TransCanada) have also decided not to do this pipeline, and why. Maybe then they'd understand more as to why exactly we didn't want this disaster waiting to happen running through our land either.

Yes, I have a couple Canadian friends who actually don't understand this. They seem to have convientantly forgotten that they, the cAnadian people, *also* declined the original plan to run it westward, through CAnada, without ever coming into the US.
