I spent much of the weekend making plans for the research trip for the current WiP (Book 2 of The Devil’s West.). If nothing else, by the end of this series, I will know my country a hell of a lot better via boots-on-the-ground…

(we’ll be driving from Washington State to Wyoming via Idaho and Montana, adding to last year’s Missouri-to-Colorado trip across Kansas.)

If anyone out there happens to live between Spokane (WA) and Cody (WY) and would enjoy a drive-by of road-tripping writers, sing out! *g*

And meanwhile, a reminder that you can pre-order the first book, SILVER ON THE ROAD, to get ready.... *g*

Weeell, if you want to go south and through the Nez Perce country, we're four an a half hours directly South from Spokane in Enterprise. That's by way of Rattlesnake Grade, which takes you right through some big canyon country up close and personal (thirteen miles of twisty road with 3000-4000 foot elevation changes). Enterprise has its own old Western stone design buildings from Bowlby stone, including the county courthouse. Atmosphere and brew pubs.

No problem. It's worth figuring out a possible dedicated visit. You can do it over a three or four day weekend from Seattle. I recommend September at this point--gorgeous fall weather and color, depending on how dry the year is. Tail of the tourist season. Plus the local bookstore might be interested in planning an event--the Fishtrap Conference headquarters is two blocks from my house, so the place is quite writer-friendly (check out Winter Fishtrap as well as Summer Fishtrap). I don't know if Amtrak still runs to LaGrande or not, but it probably does to the Tri-Cities or Pendleton.
