As irritated as I get when people owe me money (or goods or services) and are late in payment, I get even MORE annoyed, I discover, when friends are shafted. Especially when the only reason they haven't been paid is that the person owing seems to have decided that they just don't HAVE to.  And don't bother to actually talk to the person they're shafting.

Look, if you promise someone payment in exchange for services? You honor your agreement. You don't just disappear off the radar and hope everyone forgets/absolves you.

Nobody forgets.

Empathy, empathy, empathy. My feelings are heightened when I see community members repeatedly doing the shafting, then coming back to the donor well, as if no one has a memory...

Single greatest flashpoint of zero to fury is that whole mindset that simply does not make sense. You want a service, you pay. Period. Increasingly there is this weird mindset that keeps popping up that an industry that provides a service - graphic art, technical support, writing, editing - that is a skill set that most people don't have, is somehow not worth paying. It's often accompanied by the belief that said industry is one that "they could do, anyone can do, I just don't have time".

Um. No.

I could rant for hours about this. I deal with it, my friends deal with it daily. My god it makes me want to scream. You and your friend both have my understanding.

my rule for lending money is only what I can afford to lose, and if someone owes me money... I never forget, and they will never get anything else from me either.
