I need suggestions for characters from televised media (ideally television, movies are good too) who would qualify, either self-described or otherwise, as "functional alcoholics."
Everyone on Deadwood, most detectives, definitely Philip Marlowe, James Bond (although you probably already had that one), Don Draper (most of the time)
(M'wife and I watched all of Leverage this last six months or so. It is not impossible that your support for the show had some bearing on that decision.)
Which at the time reminded me of the line from Leverage where Nate admits to the same thing, which was triggered last night by a third thing, leading o this question.
Assuming you know why I do a thing or for what reason may prove you wrong. ;-D
I just saw the movie Chef last night and the character Tony played by Bobby Cannavale is a functional alcoholic. He reminds me of a functional alcoholic/chef friend of a friend I once knew, as well. Down to the head gear and everything. Weird.
BTW - if you haven't seen that movie yet, I highly recommend it! Good structure, pacing, and OMG the food pr0n.
