Tom Ridge has resigned.

Wow. Maybe I missed the obvious signs, but that one surprised me, when compared to the other f/l/e/e/i/n/g/ /r/a/t/s/ resignations.

There was strong talk about a Ridge resignation immediately after the election with the first batch.

It's starting to look like Rumsfeld is next. Wasn't he their fair-haired boy? Or is he going to take the fall because the reality of their war didn't suit the fantasy of it?

I think they've been wanting to get rid of Rummy for a while, but they couldn't previously because it would look like they weren't standing by their man. A new administration is a convenient excuse.

So he's gotten rid of everyone who tried to talk rational thought to him, and he's getting rid of those who played along with him...

Well, yes. Not surprising for the Shrub.

I found it interesting that my parents (once staunch Republicans) now detest the man in office and are afraid for their civil liberties. Knowing how adamantly they argued against my liberal beliefs in the past, this is both heartening (that they are mellowing) and frightening that even die-hards are changing.

Curiouser and curiouser...

Friends of Ridge were quoted a couple months back as saying he was going to resign for money reasons. His hefty salary isn't enough money for him to live on and send his kids to college.

That can't be true! The Bush tax cuts have revitalized the economy! To suggest that a Cabinet-level official can't make ends meet would imply that anyone making less than six figures annually would be in truly dire straits! Clearly, these "friends of Ridge" are really anti-American terrorists...

When Powell was announced, CNN flashed a headline on their website that Ridge was going too, then it vanished.

I spent the rest of the day looking for confirmation that I wasn't seeing things, and I finally saw buried deep in an article on Ann Veneman resigning that CNN had gotten a report from someone close to Ridge that he was leaving, but they couldn't confirm it with the White House so they weren't running with it.

Heck they were just two weeks early!
