giving thanks...

This year, this incredibly difficult, painful, joyous year, that's an easy one.



I'm thankful for:

My friends, who've redefined the concept for me by their words and actions, so that it means something real and true and solid. And treasured.

The readers who wrote to me, telling me how much they loved Wren and Sergei, and how eagerly they were waiting for new stories.

My immediate family, which is almost distressingly functional and supportive.

The one who holds me in his heart, and gives me no quarter or sympathy anywhere else.

And Pandora, of course, who keeps me 'umble and in constant servitude.


And LJ, which has become both a hangout and a home.


All right, now I've gotten sappy -- I expect some responses from my fellow Thanksgiving-ers!

Would I be wrong to assume that Pandora is a cat? Because the Cat Upon Whom I Wait, Pippin, performs a similar function for me. :-)

Um. It's kinda hard to think of thanks before Dec 9, but...

I am thankful. For the little silly stuff I listed in my LJ yesterday.

For my family, which may be under stress, but is holding together instead of falling apart.

For my friends, who are holding ME together instead of letting me fall apart! (And maureen_the_mad in particular for helping me run house and home and for doing such an amazing job as a landscaper.)

For my job. After many years of contracting, I've found a permanent location with good people, good pay, and good benefits.

For Micky's rare displays of affection and for DB's constant displays of same.

For DB's continued health after the kidney stone surgery two years ago. He's the best pet I ever had, and I want to have him for a long time.

For Holly House, must and mice and all, because it is a wonderful home. (Repeat comment about Mo.)

For TV. 'Cause I like it. :> Ditto Netflix.

For the internet in general, and LJ in particular. I've started to be teased for the amount of time I've spent online, but the virtual world is making a big difference in the analog one.

Response, huh? Well, my 2004 has sucked, too, so my list may be even shorter. :)

My friends, who are somehow always supportive and still never let me get complacent.

kradical, for everything, especially putting up with me. I know it's not easy. :)

Mittens, who showed me what true, unconditional love can be for 12 years, and who showed me how to go out with dignity and grace. Rest in peace, little buddy.

Marcus, for being the lovable cuddle-muffin that he has always been for his nearly 13 years, and for never letting me forget that he's really boss, even though I'm the alpha.

Aoki, for bringing joy and lightness into our house when we desperately needed it.

The readers who've told me that the risk that was taken on me was worth it.

As always, Marco Palmieri for taking that risk.

And LJ, for allowing me to keep in regular touch with friends that it seems I never normally would have. (I'm looking at you, booraven22 ;) )

Okay, perchance I was wrong about the list being shorter.
