Because CatofSize has been getting so much ink lately, I thought I'd fill you in on the Kitten of Thursday, too.

From his arrival here in the early summer at 2.5 pounds, he's now a solid and squirmy 8-ish pounds. He is also - because I was curious - 14 inches from hindquarters to neck. So assume about 16-17 inches, including the head. That's more or less average for an adult male (keep in mind, he's not a year old, yet).

For those of us who remarked on him having a long tail: we were right. His tail, from base to tip, is 12+ inches. That's almost a full inch longer than usual for males.

He still has a deep-but-squeaky meow, and a tendency to staaaaaaaaaaare.  He also has a purr that would put an idling R8 to shame.

He sounds very similar to my yard kitten, Ziggy, who's now 6 and looks just like your Catiel. Zig has the same very long tail, and he didn't stop growing unttil he was 2; at 4 weeks, he weighed less than a pound, but he's tall as well as long and now weighs 13 lbs. Same pure, too.

Your Kitten of Thursday is a cutie...and best wishes to the other one!

I have a cat, Goose, who looks like Cas' twin brother. A friend of mine has one named Frankie. And a third friend has a Tattoo Kitty who might complete the litter. Oh, and there's a Bathsheba in the mix, too. All solid black cats with really similar and unusual bone structure (that facial profile!) and those freakishly long tails.

It got me curious, so I did research. Our cats at least (Cas might be different) are all Oriental Shorthairs. Just thought it was interesting? Care to confirm my theory with Cas? Regardless, he's beautiful.

When this pic was taken, Pumba was ten months old and ten pounds. He kept growing until 18 months. Fighting weight is 14 pounds with a barrel chest, but no fat, not even enough free skin to scruff. He's 12 inches at the shoulder. The length varies; he's part Slinky. :-)

My Newton kitty was also black, and had the extra long tail. He lived a very long life as an indoor kitty. Very quiet and loving. When I see or hear of a longer tailed feline, I know they are getting a good cat.

I would have loved to have seen the expression on his face when you were measuring him.
