Tin House had a great bingo at Portland's Wordstock last year. It was disturbingly easy to bag a literary tattoo.
I got to chat with Nancy Pearl at Potlatch/Foolscap last February—she is so cool!
Why, why, why do the self-published force you to accept the bookmark/postcard/pen?! I don't want to cost you money for nothing. And it is nothing. I came back from Stumptown Comics Fest with many of these, all of which went straight into the recycling bin. If I was intrigued by your book, I bought it from you right there!
well, they "force" you to because going home with all your various chachtkas is...depressing. And that's true if you're direct-to-market or traditionally published.
And many times, the book isn't available yet - it's an early teaser.
Hopefully, the bookmark reminders about MILES TO GO/PROMISES TO KEEP will only go home with people who really want to shove them into the book they're currently reading...
The Javits centre is huge - I presume you only use a bit of it for the convention. Is it always on there?
It's been there ever since BEA settled in NYC (rather than flitting between coasts) and we use pretty much all of it, yeah. One level for booths, one level for panels and breakout sessions, the upper level for agent/sub rights meetings....

Date: 2013-05-27 03:28 pm (UTC)I would think most of those squares would be fairly easy to file (except for the sightings because I only know what Neil Gaiman looks like)
I hope you have a good time and don't spend too long on your feet or forget to eat or any other the other common occurrences at conventions..

It can be a madhouse, especially on Thursday.
