I have little hope that my (or, really, any) walk-away will stop this culture - it's got too many reinforcements from within (the benefits and entitlements) for outsiders to affect. I simply can't be even a passive participant any longer, hoping that things will change.

Beautifully said. If more people who love the sport abandon it - and say why they're leaving - maybe people will begin to notice. But you're right, the power behind it is a tsunami.
