So last night I was on Functional Nerds, talking about, among other things, the writer-brain and the layered writing process. With luck, I sounded both nerdy and functional, but between the previous night's insomnia and some tech difficulties on my end, I'm not convinced of it. Still, I remembered to say 'screwed" instead of "fucked" so at least my usual "I'm on the air, damn it" filters were working. You'll be able to determined for yourself next week how I did.

And today, I'm dealing with a client who is stalling/trying to avoid having to pay me the remaining monies due on the completion of work on my end. *sighs* We're not talking a huge amount of money here - if the client refuses to pay me, then it's probably not worth me going after them in small claims court, even though I'll be scrambling to pay a few bills this month. But, every other client from here on in will feel the result of it... (the last time I got stiffed, I started insisting on 1/3 payment up front, rather than trusting the client to pay in full at the end. It may go up to 1/2, now.) Meh.

Other than that, though.... it's a lovely sunny, cool September day, I have work that interests me on the desktop, reasonable clients on deck, and a lovely few weekends coming up to look forward to, filled with family, friends, food, and music. And Capclave, all other events willing. I will hold on to that, and motor on....

My favorite line from yesterday's work: "“It’s okay,” Ginny said. “We’ve seen dead bodies before."

Sent the book out Monday, USPS.

Formatting note -- this LJ entry somehow got line length screwed up, have to scroll back and forth to read it.

Sometimes happens from another post on my "friends" page. I see a *huge* photo from another source.

Motor on!

I will definitely let you know what I think once the FN episode goes live.

The podcast sounds like fun -- one advantage of being British is that I can get away occasionally with words in such circumstances (bollocks being the usual one).
Grr to the client, though.

Sorry about the client; that sucks. This is one of the reasons I continue employment outside the home. I don't have the head/patience for dealing with these kinds of frustrations. I admire you your fortitude in this respect. While I do a small amount of freelance work, it's with clients I've done business with for a long time and so I'm comfortable banging heads when I need to. Still, it's not something I prefer to do.

I always think small claims is worth it, just for the principle and to let people know I am serious about contracts.

There are small business collection agencies that will buy the claim for 30 cents on the dollar. Still not sure it passes the agita test to set that up though.

GRRROWL for the client! I would ask the whole sum in advance for somebody that I don't know. This is non-fiction. I don't if it would pertain to fiction.
