Okay, my brain has gone walkabout (after ten books in the series, I think it's allowed). Anyone remember in which Cosa Nostradamus novel a bay (sea) serpent got bribed into helping with a case with a sack of sausage?

I think that's Blood from Stone. At least, I know she fed Something to a serpent there. I think it was sausages, but I'm not finding where the contents of the bag are mentioned.
