I just got the following email from my editor: "I finished the ms. last night and it’s really good; little revising is needed!"

and my first thought? "Oh god, she's skimping, she didn't really read it that closely....it needs a LOT more work! You need to hate it more! I can only make it better if you hate it properly!"

Yeah. It's like that. *facepalms, goes back to work*


(I'm extremely pleased that she likes the book. I'm just...yeah. Like that.)

You are not alone, if that makes you feel any better.

In college, I learned that if someone didn't critique my work, they didn't like it enough to care. Unfortunately, that's carried over to my writing and I freak out every time an editor tells me there's nothing to fix, or only minor things to fix.

it really is a first-editor draft, as this is the first time I've worked with this particular editor. So...more neurosis and anticipation than usual. :-)

actually I thought "little editing is required" was code for "I'm gonna ask you to change half the book, especially the parts you liked the most"
