This one from Green Man Review at http://www.greenmanreview.com/book/book_gilman_stayingdead.html

It's not a rave, and it's not really quotable, but it sounds like, despite some initial misgivings, I won another reader over. Go me! :-)

Ah yes, the art of the quote. I can thank Jim Frenkel of Tor for telling me about that trick, and I strive to follow it as much as possible. :>

Of course, we all know publicists can make gold out of anything.

"Even though the plot is pure crap, this book makes an excellent paperweight. My cat loved it so much he pissed on it and buried it in the backyard."

becomes

"...This book [is] excellent. My cat loved it."

Still, it's always good to get another review.
Remind me to dredge up my review of Powers of Detection, since I forget when that'll be running in Chronicle. :>

Lessee. Ah! I reviewed Powers of Detection in my early August column, which means we'll see it in Chronicle in probably the November issue given how things seem to be. But for you, I'll excerpt:

"Laura Anne Gilman bucks the trend by focusing on a mystery that doesn’t revolve around murder, in “Palimpsest,” a story starring magical thief Wren and her partner Sergei (who are also the main characters in Gilman’s first original novel, Staying Dead). When Wren is hired to steal (or rather “retrieve”) a painting, she finds herself caught in the middle of conflicting agendas and a dangerous conspiracy. Luckily, her quick wits and her partner’s keen instincts are more than enough to handle the job... right? With Wren and Sergei, Gilman has a near-perfect team, genuinely likeable characters who carry the story in part due to their charisma together. Think Thomas Crown Affair with a little Nick and Nora Charles, and you’re on the right track."

As you can likely imagine, I am all about the "name on cover flap" goal.
Hope that helps, since it'd be a little while longer before that review sees print. Once it does, of course, I'll send clippings to Ace like always.

According to Amazon.com, I should be getting my copy on Wednesday. I'm really looking forward to reading it. :-)
