waiting for Irene, who apparently missed the memo about losing power when she hit ground, because the hurricane warning is reportedly being extended all the way up to Nova Scotia.
So far, occasional rain and gusts of wind. Nothing to get excited about, but that will change in a few hours.
I'm home, dry and safe, and really rather annoyed at the people on the news saying they'll stay put because "it's only a CAT 1." People, it's a HURRICANE. You are soft and squishy. A signpost/tree limb/small car going 70mph through the air is NOT.
SRSLY.
Everyone south along the line ok? Everyone north tucked in safe?

Date: 2011-08-27 11:04 pm (UTC)I've been through several hurricanes - and yeah, big stuff vs. squishy humans = humans LOSE. Stupid people are stupid.
Hang in there & keep safe!

Date: 2011-08-28 12:46 am (UTC)This, exactly. There's no such thing as "only" a Cat 1. Hell, I've seen tropical storms tear roofs off of house and send tree limbs through windows.
Stay safe, hon. I'll be thinking (and worrying) about you, and all of my friends in the storm's path.

Date: 2011-08-28 01:09 am (UTC)*shudder* I can imagine. And Irene is one big mother of a storm, meaning her effects will be felt over a large area and for a long damned time. I mean, I'm in Tampa Bay, and we've been getting serious 30-40mph winds kicked out by this thing.

The East river has already crested, the Gowanas looks to crest as well, and we haven't even gotten to the serious rain yet....

Date: 2011-08-28 02:09 am (UTC)As of now, it's lashing rain and wind outside, but nothing too impressive (from indoors, at least.) Hopefully this is the worst of it.
