When I went down to the East Village for dinner with a visiting out-of-town friend & his partner, I didn't realize I'd be caught up in History, when the Marriage Equality Act passed, giving all adult couples the same legal right to marry - and be, under every law, given the same rights and protections as any spouse.

Sitting at the table, refreshing Twitter, updating everywhere when the voting started.. it was both very surreal, and very real. So much better to be part of positive history.

We didn't go to Stonewall to join the celebrations - tonight is for those whose rights have been affirmed and protected. But it was a rockin' party, as well it should be. May Monday morning be bright and cheerful for all who head down to City Hall...

Good Night, New York Senate. Despite the mean-spirited bigots in your midst, a job well and finally done.

[now, as we said at dinner, we shall see who the first gay/lesbian celebrity to have a 24hour "OMG what a drunken mistake" annullment... because why should heteros be the only idiots?)

EtA: This? Is the town I grew up in. This is the community I grew up in. I <3 SOMA so very very much. A SOMA Kid's View of Marriage Equality>

Excellent development. We've had civil partnerships here since 2005 and amazingly, the nation seems not to have collapsed beneath the mysterious apocalyptic effect of single sex adults happening to want to spend the rest of their lives together.

I'm so proud of New York right now. I was in the bar with Nicole Peeler, Heather Osborn and the group from Seton Hill University last night when we heard (yup, via Twitter). A great cheer went up.

Yay New York! May this inspire a wave of sensibility throughout the country--hell, the world.

Well, I doubt that NY will inspire that to happen. Now, if it passes in Georgia, then I'd say that yeah, it'll sweep the country.

The bill goes into effect in 30 days. July 24 is a Sunday. I wonder whether they'll make people wait for Monday.

First thing I heard this morning from the outside world. I was very pleased.

I read the opinion piece, tears in my eyes by the end. Then I read it again, most of it, to my daughter, and teared up again. Thanks for the link.
