Many years ago, when I was just a wee radical, my car got blockaded by a caravan of pro-lifers. I had a "pro family, pro child, pro choice" sticker on the bumper, you see. I'm guessing the caravan was on their way to a rally or something, because all three vehicles were covered in gruesome pictures of dead fetuses. I was in the center lane. One car got in front of me, the second on my right, the third on my left. If I slowed down, they slowed down. If I sped up, they sped up. It was disturbing, frightening, maddening. I kept thinking, these people are hypocrites. They say abortion is murder, yet they are willing to kill doctors, blow up clinics, risk innocent lives on a busy freeway.
I still wonder what the hell they hoped to accomplish beyond making me even more determined to fight for a woman's right to choose.
