I am, this week, ear-deep in the Writing (huzzah!) so in light of my aforementioned anniversary, I'm going to throw this thread open to questions specifically related to writing and/or publishing, either my own work or general wonderings about the industry.

Ready.... go!

If I buy a book for less than list price (say, via Amazon, or from some other merchant who has been circulating coupons like candy) does it hurt the author's royalties? (Assuming we're talking about a book in normal circulation, i.e. not remaindered.)

Congratulations on your anniversary.

I'll take two.

1. You've been both an editor and an author. How much does your prior experience as an editor affect your writing process, and, given your editing skill, would you feel comfortable entering the self-publishing world without an editor?

2. Do you see a growing role for freelance editing, given the greater pressure/freedom to self-publish original work?
