Not so much bitter as enjoying LJ much more. Better conversations (more actual interaction on interesting topics), easier interface, and a less, hrm, incesteous group of responders, overall.
In short: LJ gives back more for the effort than SFnet does, at least for me. And I only have so much time+brainpower=effort to go around.
It has its pluses. I do like skimming to see what's up ith whom. But most of it really is smart silliness and me-too-ing rather than discussion, and I find it wears on me after a while.
I'm turning into a curmudgeon in my extreme and increasing old age...
I remember Elizabeth Peters commenting through a character's mouth that at 35, a lot of people suddenly realize that they have this "crap detector" that goes off all the time. They no longer have any patience with crap. It's the biggest problem I see in re-entering the general work force, if it becomes necessary.
After being self-employed for so long, I'm used to working with competent people who don't annoy... %^)
So do what really needs doing, and enjoy the rest? Worth a try--
