lagilman: coffee or die (citron presse)

And lo, we did run away from home, and lo it was a Good Thing. No phones, no computers, the only part of the NYTimes allowed was the crossword puzzle. Wine-tasting and beach-walking and leisurely dining, and story-telling, and a slow, traffic-free trip home. Nice.

(and we came home because there are things that need doing at home, but that's okay, home is good too)

Sunrise over the Peconic Bay

If you give a geologist a rocky beach...

If you are ever on the North Fork of Long Island, I can wholeheatedly recommend the Harborfront Inn, in Greenport. Not cheap, but lovely and well-run, and their "continental breakfast" is an actual breakfast, not just anemic-looking pastries and coffee. And the walk-in shower... I could have moved in there, is all I'm sayin. :-) Also the Farm House for lunch/dinner -- carefully casual, but there's nothing casual about the food (solid yum) or the service. They're brand-new but it looks like word-of-mouth is spreading - we barely slipped in without reservations.

(more photos, mainly of the beach and sunset/sunrise, at the flickr set)

I used to summer on Little Peconic Bay. If heaven is not like that I don't think that I want to go there.
I am saddened by the decline in water quality since the years that I lived there. And the loss of the bay scallop harvest.
