Nov. 10th, 2010 07:35 amUpdate on the Computer Woes:
A little research and applied deduction via my tech support revealed my recent computer woes to be the result of a hot new rootkit. If I ever encounter the parent of said rootkit, I will remove him from this existence with both malice and planning aforethought. There won't BE a body to to find.
Anyway. Spent yesterday afternoon shopping for a new computer. Started at Best Buy. Found exactly what I wanted - much to my surprise fell in love with another Dell, after years of HP. Out of stock (of course). No idea when they'd get it in, in any of the stores (of course). Second choice (HP) considerably less pleasing for same price. Tried two other chains, nolove. Looked online from Dell, courtesy of the helpful guy at Staples, found I might be able to get it within 10 days, for same as store cost, delivered to my door. Hit head against wall.
New Computer is currently being built for me, and will be shipped post-haste. My writing will be slowed until then, as the netbook requires me to take more frequent breaks, but I will slog on regardless. It's not as though there isn't much else to be done in the meanwhile. But oh, the frustration. Want the newshinyeviltech NOW!
Meanwhile, this is my life:
Work on new book. Watch newly-released book find its feet. Worry about book-to-be-released (February). Work on production elements of next-to-be-released project (June). Wait for revisions on two other books still in the pipeline. Work on two new proposals. Try, between all that, to have A Personal Life. And, occasionally, some sleep.
Mmmm, sleep. Nope, must up and away and caffeinate and to work....

Date: 2010-11-10 04:11 pm (UTC)Thanks anyway.
(I may, after the new machine is here, see about getting an adapter for the times I want to work elsewhere in the apartment but want a larger screen. The 18" flatscreen is nicely portable, within reason...)
